i read somewhere that most Americans are aware that they are thought of as 'uncultured' by other nations but were comfortable with it. This is the land that brought you the chili-dog, NASCAR, coca cola and michael jackson...
i suppose Americans just have a different idea of 'culture' than the rest of us....something like having barbeque sauce with your french fries instead of cheese..

However, I am not keen on chili-dogs, barely watch NASCAR, I drink diet Coke and think M. Jackson is an absolute freak that is is welcome to flee our country to another liberal residence that accepts child molesters. |

I love these threads that are about "we are better then you." I have an American born/raised daughter that recently moved to Denmark. She has made the comment that Europe is no different then being home. Everyone has the same problems no matter where you are. Her fiance is Danish/Irish and wants to move to the states. She wants to live in Europe.
I have 2 Greek born and raised boys. They basically say the same thing. I am well traveled but never to Europe. As Americans we are viewed to have certain traits and customs. But you have to look at the size of the US. We are almost the size of Europe. If you took Europe and it's problems as a whole, it resembles the US. Europeans love to point out the racial problems we have in the states. It's kinda small when you consider the Serbs-Croatian situation in the 90's. As an American traveling we can have as much diversity as Europeans can without leaving the borders. We have states bigger the Scotland /Ireland/England. Texas is 6xxx bigger then Ireland and far more diverse. Americans are well traveled. We just go to Mexico and the islands south of us. The travel rates are much cheaper then the flights to Europe and a tourist is faced with less hassle. So the islands/Meico is an obvious choice. As far as language skills go more Americans are becoming bi-lingual. We do not have the need to learn other languages except Spanish.

i object to using the word 'shine' and 'hasslehoff' in the same sentence...seems a little obscene.... he may have advertised cheap cologne here in the '70s and has a few nasty pop records....i for one prefer his castmembers....(baywatch, not knightrider)

Charles Dickens on America...
"I believe that the heaviest blow ever dealt at liberty's head will be dealt by this nation in the ultimate failure of its example to the world." Ol' Charlie was well ahead of his time.

If I were you though, I wouldn't go trying to attach liberalism to sexual deviancy, without considering the many "conservative's" preferences - ~ Jimmy Swaggart (aka the Rev. "Hookers Will Set U Free!") ~ Sen. Ryan (Took his wife Jeri Ryan [Star Trek's Seven of Nine] to sex parties in New Orleans and elsewhere, wanted to "GOP Horizontal Bop" her publically on a club table.) ~ Sen. Parkwood. ~ Newt Gingrich. ~ Arnold "Der Groper" Schwarzenegger. ~ Edgar J. Hoover, who dressed in drag and secretly lived with a boyfriend, but liked to compile FBI files on Kennedy's sex life. ~ Justice Clarence "Hey Anita, is that a pubic hair on my Coke can?" Thomas Laff!!
