Do the French care if most Americans think that they are spineless jellyfish and more arrogant than even…US? Do the brits care if that most think they have a deplorable dental system? Or that that those from Ireland drink a lot or the Scots wear dresses and play with pipes? Italians are all mafia??? So forth and so on….This whole thread really is meaningless. Talk to most Americans (not far left leaning American haters who don’t want to be here anyway) you will get the following response…”Who in the heck cares what anyone thinks” I’m not living my life to please someone else and I am damn sure that neither are any of you out there…. |

The problem is there is more crime in London than New York and Britian is also racially divided just as some U.S. States. Seldom does a day go by I don't see a headline in the tabloid papers over here about how illegal immigrants are ripping off the taxpayer and fleecing welfare e.t.c. e.t.c.
Yet, if you travel to Russia or Japan, racial issues never feature on front pages. Americans are also probably more polite than Brits too in many States. Quote:

According to which figures (that you failed to specify) exactly ? Quote:
Let's put this into perspective. You read the Daily Mail, which is well known to have promote hatred of Ethnic Minorities in this country. Furthermore the Daily Mail has an apalling record as far as reporting the "facts" goes. It got caught spoofing images of British soldiers beating up Iraqis (not that I have ever doubted that it happens, but it hardly helped anyone by making up the story)... It got caught over Iraq & WMD for that matter, it got caught lying about the Forest Gate guys, it got caught (along with a broadsheet) slandering Galloway... Go figure. If you want to see white people committing crimes in the UK I suggest that you look no further than pretty much any office in the country. White collar crime is out of control in this country, check out Two Jags/Two Shags/Two Blags for a classic example. Quote:
Probably because the Daily Mail wouldn't be allowed to get away with the slander it prints in any other country. Quote:
Depends on the individual.

depends on the region of the US also. the south and midwest are very friendly areas. they are usually very hospitable and acknowledge your presence with a smile and wave. people from the east coast, esp new yorkers can be jackasses. actually, i should say they can be nice. because most of the time it seems they are jackasses. i've noticed europeans (and most of my contact has been with dutch, german, and swiss people) tend to be a little more standoffish than we are here. they don't warm up to you for a while. a lot more formal. just my $.02 |

Let's leave the Mail discussion aside and look at the broad picture:
What I'm saying is hardly a day goes by when I don't hear either the press or the T.V. media obsessing over race and immigration. Let's face it, the Government is also in serious trouble over the immigration issue and this is an ongoing saga. Let me clarify this: When I lived in Spain, never did I see a copy of Diario De Navarra or any other Spanish publication with a frontpage story about how immigrant gangs had been claiming welfare illegally in Spain. Neither have I seen any of those crazy stories about hot-cross-buns being banned from a school e.t.c. as the crosses are supposed to be offensive. What can I conclude? There is very little racism in Spain. However in England I would say there is now a big problem with racism and this is due to the fact Blair has the most lax immigration control in Europe. Even the BBC has reported there is widespread anger over immigration. Maybe not so much in London where you live but you should try taking a look round here where we actually have protests taking place (often about Polish workers arriving in too large numbers). How would you feel if you'd studied many years to be a nurse and you were then informed there was no job for you? Yet at the same time, the Government is recruiting thousands of nurses from overseas. This has annoyed people in my own area. As for my view, what gets up my nose is the fact we're not yet in the E.U.. Blair hasn't signed up to a single currency and he hasn't adopted E.U. levels of welfare, pensions and wage levels. Yet Blair has allowed all recent E.U. members to have full access to the labour market over here whereas France and Germany have put this on hold. So, to be honest, I see a few problems developing over here. People seem to be angry over E.U. immigration, the foreign prisoners scandal, criminal gangs, overcrowding, housing shortages e.t.c. Incidentally, any American will tell you people in the U.S. have also gotten heated up about the immigration issue but I think here it's a good deal worse. If you so much as whisper that huge influxes of foreign nationals are displacing local populations and overloading the NHS, welfare and housing, you are simply called a racist. That upsets folk even more I think. Quote:

The Daily Mail isn't a particularly right-wing paper. It opposes I.D. cards, defends free speech and, for the most part, opposes the Iraq war. The Mail is a liberal rag that swings a little bit to the right on occasions, depending upon who's writing. The most right-wing columnist the Mail has now is Richard LittleJohn who used to write for the Sun. I confess, LittleJohn does sometimes go a bit too far although they still have him on the Beeb.
The Express and Sun are far more right-wing. I find the Express too right-wing to be bale to read it comfortably. Quote:

Americans have ignorant rednecks, yes, I believe they're called Yobs in England. I could be wrong. London is without crime? Nottingham, Leeds? Sure, we have some rough cities, most places do. As for the rest - uncaring, divided by class, preoccupied with money, ignorant of the outside world, racially divided, and dominated by big business... Yeah, that just about sums it up. There may be no I in Team, but there's defintely a ME in America. |
