Out of all the places in the world, it was the only place on this planet that all of my grandparents were welcome to come to when cossack murderers made it impossible for them to stay in the pale of settlement, Russia/Poland/Belarus/Lithuania/Galacia, etc........Czar Alexander got his rewards for being such a nice guy. Good will triumph over evil, in the end.

CORRECTION: America was a wonderful country until it lost sight of what it sought to be and allowed only the myth to survive as a tool for venal politicians. Now if you want to find "patriotism" you can buy it in the form of a red, white and blue cloth to hang from your balcony. It's lost any real meaning, but people like 2Fast, who obviously know little or nothing of the freedoms embodied in the U.S. constitution, think waving "Old Glory" around like a hot oven mit gives them street cred.

When you say that America is great, exactly what makes it great? With the possible exception of the Mugabe regime, i would say that the US admin is the most despised regime of all, and that includes a large percentage of Americans.

It doesnt shape up as a great country in my book. When was the last time anyone here felt inspired by anthing that came from the US or anything that they did? I know i am scratching my head.

When was the last time they committed an appauling act that was condemed the world over? What about business corruption from Microsoft to Enron...

Illegal concentration camps in the 21st century? Expliotation of poor countries with rich natural resources.

we had a cyclist a few years back that came 4th in Le Tour and 2nd in the Giro, le tour king of the mountains winner...

doubt that any american will do that any time soon now that LA is gone....especially in the Giro..

Nessism has been told many times that if he wants the fork back, he can send a call tag for it and I'll be more than willing to pack it up. As for my freedoms, I enjoy them all here in Thailand, and then some. I am NOT allowed to criticize the king, but then just try heckling Bush at one his speeches and you'll find you can't do it either.

Did you think America was the only place in the world that guaranteed free speech, free press, free religion? It's not, and many of the places that guarantee those freedoms actually act on the guarantee.

Another thing, I enjoy freedom from fear of violent crime. It hasn't happened to me once in a decade here. It is rare, and I never think of it. The last time it happened to me was in New York City, 5:30 am at 15th Street-Prospect Park subway station in 1998.


I visited the U.S. a year after 9/11 and found a semi-police state. I wasn't even allowed to leave my 8-year-old son at the books section in WalMart for fear of some child snatcher. They actually paged him as a lost boy. Just sitting there reading like he does all the time here in Asia. Now tell me, where are he and I more free?

As much as anything else, I don't want my son to grow up in a culture of fear - and that's just what America has become.
