Back On Topic, I can relate to motorcyclists wanting to use bikeways that take the shoulder of busy roads in the city, but to use bikeways constructed off the main transport lanes is ridiculous. Besides, I use the Ipswich motorway daily for my commute to work and the number of lane splitting motorcyclists is worrysome. They don't need to take our bikelanes, they do a good enough job of making their own.

I'm from the SE Qld area too and I ride moto as well as pedal powered 2 wheelers (the latter being my preferred commute method). Agree with you that moto-riders do a good enough job lane splitting not to need to use bike paths. Don't know what you can do to stop the ones who'll use a bike path anyway but at least if it's a listed traffic infringement, then it's some kind of discouragement.

I personally get rather protective of my space on a bike path and feel that it should be left to the non-ICE-powered road user (i.e. I'm happy to share with skaters, leg-powered scooter riders or similar).

I also get protective of transit lanes, especially when I'm on 2 wheels. Gets my blood simmering when I see butthead cage drivers taking the p!ss without enough passengers to qualify travelling in the T-lane ... grrrrr!

They would probably get annoyed about a cyclist overtaking them and speed up.

Funny you should say this, a couple of months ago I nearly pee'd myself laughing at a couple of motorists, who saw me riding faster than them in peak hour traffic, and nearly running up the bum of the car in front, because they hated the fact that I was doing better than them. I can only imagine the mayhem that motor bikes would cause on bikeways. Like buaubouy, I too have had motor cross bikes fly around a corner in front of me on an off road path at high speed. The rider nearly lost control, I am sure he was as surprised as me but DUDE, It's a bike lane!! not for motor bikes
