ok, booze hags, I need some more tips.
![]() I've given up on beer for the time being, and I'm trying bourbon again. I was drinking Jim Beam last night and some guy reckons to me that Jim Beam is like the Carlton Cold of bourbon/whiskey/scotch, especially the white label Jim Beam. True? And is Wild Turkey SO much better than Jim Beam, like many bogans claim? |

here's one for ya: what was the deep carbon rear wheel Bruyneel had on his Colnago when he went over the edge on that mountain in the 1996(?) Tour? There's a pic of it in the current Bicycling Australia mag, but I can't make out the logo. It looks like a Lightweight, but I dunno if they were supplying wheels to pros back then |

Not the mass-produced crap you get here. Ditch the bourbon and get into the real stuff - single malts. Thylo is a bit of a whisky fan, so I'm sure he'll be able to offer advice. But, here's one to start with, Dalwhinnie ..... nice fruity nose, soft on the palate. It's what I would class as a good pre-dinner whisky. But if you're looking for tips on what to drink when you're at the pub then I have NFI - wouldn't touch any of the spirits on offer there unless they were heavily disguised by the addition of mixers.

Nev, it doesn't matter what bourbon you're drinking if you're mixing it with coke. You may as well be drinking formalin or acetone.
As Ma suggests, if you want to drink and enjoy whiskey, drink it neat, and drink the Scottish single malts. Dalwhinnie is nice, Glenmorangie is worth a go, Glenfiddich is shit unless you go for the seriously expensive stuff. The smaller producers with the very plain looking labels are all worth drinking, and there's hundreds of the buggers. Go to a specialist bottle-o that has more than 10 single malts and ask lots of questions. Either that or winkle an invite round to Ma's on a Wagyu and Grange night. I think that's every Friday isn't it? Just like takeaway night for the rest of us slobs ![]() |

Ballantine's 12 year is the best budget Scotch. It's a blend, but it blows many more expensive singles out the water as far as my mouth is concerned. At $39.95 it's a bargain, and available at Dan's too which is a bonus.
Drink it with Coke and I'll smash ya. ![]() Bourbon is shit. Avoid it like the plague. |
