Difference being, it used to be hated by the enemy (probably a good thing). Now, it's being seriously disliked by the populace in countries of many allies (probably not a good thing).

What do you base this statement on? I have no statistical data but I would summise that Hatred of American forien policy and the name George Bush would be closly linked (at least in the western world). Perhaps you could ask yourself why a swelling mass of the worlds population think poorly of you instead of hiding your head in the sand crying "Its all BS, your all just US Haters" |

I'm not scaremongering, I'm making a prediction - that China will be the major superpower in the next decade.
It's fine for Bush to talk about the U.S. sending men to Mars and building bases on the moon but the reality is the U.S. is bogged down in Iraq, trying to bring democracy to a country that never had any experience of democracy. While Bush has been putting so much effort into Iraq and his war on terror, China has been steadily developing its economy, educating its population and developing its military/space program. China is the world's fastest growing economy and is growing at a faster rate than the USSR under Stalin. The U.S. can't possibly compete when so much of its budget is being directed towards keeping peace in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bush may talk big but the reality is he led his country towards decline and it will take a miracle to undo the political/economic damage Bush has already done. Quote:

Since 1945, the wider Middle East and Iran (and Iraq) in particular have had regimes "supported" by expedient foreign policies of Britain and the USA. Saddam for example was "supported" by the USA and Britain. Saddam was viewed as being democratic by the USA and Britain from 1979-1991. Use of the word democratic is problematic. Quote:
Agreed.

China has resolved the problem without any input from the US.
The Chinese government ,in a fait accompli told Condi when she arrived in Beijing for talks. Condi will return to deliver lessons in diplomacy to the Bush regime as soon as she has wiped the egg from her face.

Disarmament isn't the issue, Bill. You're the one talking crap. Fact is your country, Britain, France, India, Pakistan, Israel, continue to proliferate - despite your country (and others) undertaking to disarm at the cessation of the coldwar. Therefore the issue with NK isn't disarmament. If other countries continue to proliferate - NK is entitled to proliferate. (for the record the only countries who did disarm were South Africa and Russia : personally I oppose all proliferation including NK's but if other countries are proliferating then it's hard to make the case that NK shouldn't proliferate).

Great....EXACTLY the reason Bush wouldn't negotiate with NK without the neighboring countries. Thank you for showing the importance of their input. |

No, it's only because the Bush admin has started to run around hitting the panic button and making a fool of themselves that NK has decided to take a breather. The pause button didn't come from China, it came out of NK. China was just the messenger. Bottomline is, as many foreign policy experts both in the US and outside of US have stated in public repeatedly, the Bush admin does not have a coherent foreign policy and has repeatedly had eggs on their face. NK is shrewed enough give the US run around because of this. An only people like you are still feeling proud of your president and his impotent admin. If the Bush admin doesn't smarten up and continue on its way, next time the screw would be tighter again and there'll be more eggs on Bush and Condi's faces. ![]()
