Bring back the older, balder, fatter, uglier avatars - this forum is made up of real people.

This is all too much!!!!!!
Moral of the story:

Never say you look like someone's avatar - it can be changed.

I googled it. Haven't heard of it before so it must not be a problem. We fishing exclusively in the shallow water and I think the google search stated that is was an issue with bill fish.

If there was a problem with it, you would have been probably warned about it by the locals. It is primarily a reef-fish problem, stemming from a reef-type algae which gets magnified as you go up the food chain. Where it exists - grouper and barracuda can be the highest risk. Pelagic fish (like mahi mahi, tuna, wahoo, mackeral, billfish etc.) are usually free of the toxin because they don't feed on reef-fish. It is a big problem in the Bahamas, and the Carribean. But it varies geographically, depending on where the toxic reef organism exists. The poison is cumulative, it is not passed out of the system. Symptoms from memory are dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, muscle aches, numbness, and hallucinations. It rarely causes death, but if you eat a fish that is highly toxic and you have enough of it, you may require an air-lifted hospital visit.

Check wikipedia.

It is something that you might want to enquire about (talk to the locals - they usually know) before eating reef-caught fish, but usually the problem, if it exists, is well-known and visitors are warned. In much of the BVI for instance, self-caught fish are usually too toxic to eat. There is no inexpensive way of testing a fish to see if it carries the toxin before you eat it.

But crustaceans are safe.

One of the problems is that the poison can be well-known to locals, but authorities are loathe to publish accurate information about it fearing that it would discourage tourism (ie people wouldn't eat the safe fish served in restaurants).

LOL. Maybe it isn't his old lady though. The bar is pretty high in this thread now. Obviously Helmut didn't think his face made the grade. And perhaps his old lady had a makeover with a substitute lady up the beach. J/K. No offense intended on your better half, Helmut.

Just wondering what the purpose of the snap was. Then again, if I was Helmut, I'd be proud to show my lady off as well.

What are you doing? You are not at risk because of your avatar. I can't accept you masquerading as a catholic schoolgirl with a mace in hand. I'm no pedophilic pervert. Please put your real picture back up, Miss Anastassakis, or my fantasy goes kerflop. And my bike fitness is going to go downhill rapidly.
