So you are gonna be screwed if you get a flat on the road then.

I think you need to replace your rim tape with those little plastic inserts that go over the holes in the rims(and throw away the rim tape). I've forgotten the name right now and I'm in a rush - but all the big boys sell them now.

Without rim tape you effectively you gain a few mm, save weight and should be able to get your tire on no probs. Good luck!

I made it home safe but it could have been bad.

A spin in the dryer would expand a wire bead but may soften the rubber and render the tire more susceptible to damage.

After a life of changing my own motorcycle tires, the bike stuff is pretty easy for me. Of course I may encounter a bitchy set one day , but for now I can take them on and off with hands only . A third "iron" (plastic) may help you a lot .
Pay attention to setting the opposite bead well in the rim vee .

I too, like my velo plugs.

If anybodys reading this and know of a good wheelset for a big guy. 6'2" 190lbs
id read that the r560s where bullet proof so thats how I ended up with them

shimano hubs, like 6600, DT rims, the double eyelet 1.1 or Mavic CXP-33, DT 14/15 spokes all around laced 3 cross, brass nipps.

My set was sharp, too. It was a cheapie set and the side which faced the bead had a ridge on it from the forming process. I think a better set would not have cut the cords and I plan to file mine down.

I have to second (or third, can't remember) the mention that Vittorias are THE most difficult tires to mount/dismount. I don't buy them at all (even though I like the ride of them) because of this major hassle...

I never had much of a problem with Vittoria Zaffiros on my old Alex rims or Vittoria Open Corsa Evo Cx tires on 1980's vintage Mavics, but I had a major hassle putting a new Bonty Race Lite on a Bonty wheel. Two days, lots of soap, water, and cursing....and two tubes. You would think that it would have been easier considering that they are supposedly made for each other.
