The only appropriate response is a big "whatever." No, people shouldn't
stay away from a master's program just because they don't want to
compete, no, coaches shouldn't browbeat people into competing, but yes,
it's OK is a team is competition focused because there is room for all
sorts of people in this world, including both those who want to compete
and those who don't, and a master swim team that competes isn't the only
game in town, e.g., my Y has a class called adult advanced swimming or
words to that effect that offers many of the benefits of a masters swim
team like a teacher, regular workouts, etc., without competitions - but
they also have a competing team at the same Y where no one is forced to
attend meets, only those who want to do so, and I think they only go to
one or two meets a year, anyway.

Lighten up and stop trying to make arguments where there aren't any.
Micheal did a good thing and it needn't go further than that. Sheesh.

You really need something else to do with your free time - you spend far
to much of it looking to stir up arguments here. Micheal swam at a
meet, we all said Bravo, and you're trying to make something out of it
that just isn't there.

race, and how I did on it. I even have video, and there is a website with
the results.

What am I not understanding? It is you who may not be understanding.

But I could be wrong.
