Bingo
http://www.blackburncycling.org.au/
Go to 'results' then click on the Kew Boulevard TT results to get an idea of the times some people do.

The timing is from the yellow line near walmer street to the roundabout at the first freeway crossing and back. Some of the times are for two of those loops

Thanks I'm not as bad as I thought! Though not yet at those times

How do I get involved in friendly (organised) competition in Melbourne anyway?

To race on the road or track http://www.vic.cycling.org.au/ and find a local club. You must have a licence to compete & these are arranged via the clubs.

Or http://www.atta.asn.au/ if you want to do time trials only. (look for the ATTA Victoria section for info.

Or http://www.mtba.asn.au/ if you want to race offroad on an MTB

and finally http://www.veterancycling.com.au/ is another road racing option (but for 35yrs +) Don't know if you fit this profile or not...

Hope this helps.
