For my situation I am pretty sure it is the training load since my legs get hit with both weights and cycling during the week and then longer rides on the weekend. It is a very hard load that I don't suggest to competitive cyclists. In that sense I agree with the guys at Science of Sport that my cramping is related to fatigue. However, I am not experienced enough to make judgment on bike fit and put my faith on the professional fit that I had on my road bikes. I believe the fit is okay because I feel pretty good with the bike setup. It is important to look at all aspects as you suggest.

Sorry I just took a quick glance at your post earlier, since I am at work, but yes my suggestive question was directed to the original poster. Since the condition seems constant for him it would not be likely to be a hydration, nutrition or just having abad day and he might look to some reason that might be more of a static cause. My legs went dead on me yesterday but I lost 4.5 lbs in 2 hours on my ride and I tryed to stay hydrated. It is just too hot and all I have is climbing here.

Speaking of which my friends will be up in your turf to do the Cherohala in a couple of weeks. I wish I could give a try, but will probably wait one more year.

That's a tough one similar in verticle climb to the English Mtn challenge. I hope it cools down for him before then.

If you get that issue resolved then your other leg issues will probably go away too..... |

Based on my personal experience recently I found out how an extra hour of sleep for me can make a huge difference. I experienced this last Saturday. I usually have ti be out of the road by 5:30 to get in a couple hours max. I could just tell when I woke up Saturday that my body was energized. I decided to sleep till 7:30 as my wife said they would be busy and my body responded well to the added rest.
I notice when I am rushed and can not get a good warm up that my legs can have that "clay" like feeling. I usually shift to lower gears even if I have to sacrafice speed to get my cadence up and hopefullly the feeling goes away and I can shift back up again later. Lately my problem has been attacking to much in higher gears and while numbers are higher I am burning out more quickly so my 90 minute rides are great but the 2 hour rides are suffering. Funny cause when I know I am going to do a 3 hour ride or longer...I pace myself much better. -js Quote:
