This thread is like 46 posts long. Apart from the OP... has there been one post about Basso yet?

Not a single one...

I don't think anyone should get amnesty. Riders dope, although they know what the consequences are, then get caught, 'cause they're bad cheaters. And, at the end they moan, 'cause the other cheaters were better in cheating and didn't get caught.
This sport became complete game... Talent, training, cheating... You have to be complete rider to make career in this sport.

No amnesty for Basso. So it's unfair he was singled out for OP, deal with it. It's also unfair to the clean riders that want to ride in the pro Tour.

Of course, he'll probably come back and call Ferrarri (if Contador can free him up)...

Yes...but at the moment... a few guys are taking all the crap... Cycling is taking the crap from every other sport that also has rife doping. And a few guys who are exposed are taking the flak for every pro rider, the UCI, pro teams, DS's, etc., etc.

Its like you are have been playing illegal poker in this guy's basement for years with 50 other guys and the cops come round and everyone runs but only you get caught... and the guy who owns the house is going ... "I never knew officer... there is only this one guy... and I thought he was practicing his flute down there".

You're right.
But, as I mentioned, it's complete game. Those who weren't caught (and we all know they're guilty too) obviously play better... Have better (more discreet) doctors, advocates, their corruption connections are better... Full package.

Edit:
UCI doesn't know how to handle things... They're not powerful like FIFA or UEFA or ATP tour. They don't know how to play top level game too... Make big enough money to avoid scandals... Where's big money there's interest to hide bad publicity (doping).
Maybe this approach is too banal, but I think it's true.

Some are also just lucky. For e.g. the Spanish government will cover (or has been covering) the @$$es of most Spanish riders to protect football.

I think if your referring to failing drug tests... yes the ones who consistently pass are playing the "game" better... but I don't think that applies to OP and Festina type revelations. Those are just bad luck.

That's my point about power of organization and corruption.
How many people in different kind of industries would loose their jobs (and how big loss of related companies would be) if, for example, Ronaldinho gets two year suspension with additional two years of limited employment?

Jeebus. Four pages of this crap.

It seems like the ASO's switch to punishing teams rather than indidual riders could have an affect on Basso's future. He's not coming back to a team with aspirations of doing the Tour any time soon, even if the ProTour falls apart.

What CONI should do instead of letting Basso off is stick to the Spanish. If a national federation doesn't take the doping issue seriously then ban all their athletes from competition.

Those DP guys. I found this in a DP thread on Basso having his suspension reduced. It's what is left of a post by cyclingheroes.

deleted by moderator...this post was a link to an advertisement for items for sale.

This post has been edited by DPCandND: Jun 15 2007, 06:26 PM

I don't ever recall cyclingheroes pimping goods on CF or DP.

EDIT: Actually the thread was on Basso's two year ban with reduction stuff put at the end.
