Yeah, You know what? No matching shorts either. You get the yellow jersey and you shoud respect it. You are just keeping it warm for the next guy. Don't go changing your shorts, bike, bar tape, socks and sunglasses. Just put on the damn jersey and ride. Same goes for any national or world championship jersey. No more freakin white shorts. If you get the Pro Tour jersey you should just refuse to wear it. I have strong feelings on this stuff.

Like Joe Paterno says "Don't go showing off if you score a touchdown. Act like you've been in the endzone before and you plan on going back."

I agree with the sentiment, though. Same applies for Betttini and his gold-coloured this and rainbow that. Wear the jersey: we can see it. Leave it at that. One thing Basso did when he won the Giro--he didn't get the 'everything pink' kit until the final day. I suppose there's sponsor-pressure for that kind of thing now.

Mind you, even in the 1980s they couldn't help themselves: rainbow stripes on the shorts, rainbow stripes on the gloves... Have a look at Argentin:

Problem with Bettini is that he is being dressed by a Belgian.

Have to agree on Bettini. Just horrible. Don't they have laws for that sort of thing in Italy. You would think they would revoke his citizenship.

But, I disagree Bro. The American Flag looks awesome
I think the U.S. flag sucks. It has too much going on, so it's hard to make anything look good and still use all the elements from the flag.

I couldn't disagree with you more. But we each are certainly entitled to our opinion.

Argentin was the first to go overboard on it IMO. What's worse is that the jersey was 'stylised' and the bands looked like they were drawn on with crayon. Totally ghey.

Frucking good bike rider though and I loved those Bianchis with the black chrome headtube and forks.

This is all about sponsors and getting your rider in the newspapers. Remember Cipollini's funny time trail suits, all yellow kit when he had the yellow jersey?

Same for all the others, and especially guys like Bettini. The magazines here are full of the 'special edition' Sidis that cost twice as much because they are in gold/rainbow/whatever.

We all look like parakeets when we ride guys. Let us just get over it. I never understand the wailing and gnashing of teeth about national jerseys and the like; I prefer not to wear them, but if they make you feel 'special' and ride more, than go ahead!

Just my two euro cents there...
