While I've never competed in anything of quite the same gravity, I can understand someone really wanting to blow away the record and letting their senses get away from them. That's part of life.

I hope that he hasn't totally mucked up his relationship with his coach.

I doubt it. But his coach is pretty headstrong too! We're all mates (same club too).
