Default Who wins the Tour now?

Evans has got to be a favorite but is he THE favorite? The course this year is very interesting.

Sastre will have the best team, but he finished far behind the top three last year.

A while back I picked Cunego as having a decent shot, based in part on the belief that Astana would get excluded.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Simoni make a run at it.

Are there going to be any teams that could control the race? Somebody like Soler could escape and never get caught.

Bet will be difficult because the field would be cleaner than never.... we would see some big bonks.
How would be the old top ten without blood doping ?

Or who would use doping on TDF? The temptation become greater with less dopers!

I predict Tommy D. will be in the top ten.

I would like to see a good performance by Gadret. He was doing very well in the Giro before crashing.

Soler, if he is there, might be tired from the Giro.

After following him in Mountain Biking and now the Tour, I would like to see Evans win it. Plus I would like to see an Aussie win, they are great competitors.
But I think Sastre has a real shot at this one. It seems no one is cutting Astana
any slack at all, despite the efforts the team has put in place to clean up. Doesn't that account for anything?

I wold love to see Simoni there, but me thinks his years are a couple to many.

It should/could be a pretty open race. Cadel has to be the odds on favorite now, but I don't think his chances are so great that he is a shoe in.

What effort has the team done to clean itself up?

They "cleaned" the team up after Liberty Seguros. We saw how well that went.

That is the most telling point in the interview with Prudhomme, they went through this process before and look what happened. That combined with the fact that if you believe in the myth that JB creates champions because of his kung-fu DS skills and not a systematic doping program, then maybe I can see how you would think Astana have turned the corner.

Yep everyone will skip the Giro now to race the Tour because they have a chance !

if Moncoutie suddenly got over his phobia's and did not have the broken leg to recover form from, he would be a podium shot imo. If you just look at the 2004 alpe d'huez tt, it is indicative.

Don't discount the possibility of one of the Schleck bros. stepping up to the plate (and onto the podium) if Sastre isn't in best form. They can both certainly TT better than Sastre. Andy proved he could climb with the best of them in last year's Giro. Maybe not a win but certainly in the GC running.

Great pick! Wasn't one or both of them under suspicion about doping though?

dont be silly, they cannot tt well. Have a close look at some Vuelta results, Sastre has pulled out very good tts when needed.

50 km Tour de France tts will never suit Sastre. But dont kid yourself Frank and Andy can tt better yet. Frank will never. Andy will be a good tter perhaps even as strong as Evans. Frank only tted well with the juice, now they are cleaner, he will be able to defend somewhat in Tour of Romandie etc.
