like to add, the US teams are a little insulated from the continent, as the race organisers realise it is in their interest to keep the american component happy and satisfied. The US cycling fan consumer part time, is insulated also from the real politik, unaware about McQuaid. Only becomes a problem if they cant ride Roubaix, or Giro or the Tour. But that wont happen, cos they 'Merican.

They won't be happy about Paceline's attempts to make Astana the heir to the Disco throne in America.

Three million also buys you three ads on the Super Bowl telecast, which is viewed by most of America (not many Americans in contrast are going to watch Roubaix, Giro and the TdF). So I think the owner/CEO is looking at the fun of being involved as a big player in a sports team as part of the pay-off. I don't think it is a straight $$$ decision.

So which one was it thunder? 2.3 or 2.6 mill? When it was $1 million a few years ago, it became a news story, which is the figure I quoted, obviously out of date. But the Super Bowl ad comparison wasn't the crux of my point. But clever attempt at shifting the argument or discrediting the messenger... . It was a lot more effective than your usual counter-argument of "Fuck you". ...

What's the Boulder HQ have to do with it? Tour of Colorado? Come on, Chipotle has over 600 restaurants across the USA. What has Boulder, CO got to do with anything?

position, position, position.

They aint positioning themselves as fast food brand, they are a health food sold fast. Boulder is their capital and cycling's capital is boulder, mecca for endurance athletes, the st louis dome is sponsored by edward jones, partly I assume a home town branding.

so some csr pursuit, some branding. HQ important.

Mexican health food is an oxymoron, thunder...

Have you been to one of their restaurants? My understanding is that they were positioning themselves as having organic food ingredients/supplies (no steroids in the beef) which cross-pollinates to "no steroids in the cyclists". I don't think it is calling itself a health food restaurant... but definitely niching as a healthier alternative to other Mexican chains.

And I don't get the Boulder connection. Positioning of what? Okay... USA Cycling's HQ is in Colorado Springs, which is about 100 miles away on the other side of Denver. You might start an argument if you say that Boulder is US cycling's capital.
