Chicharro JL, Hoyos J, Bandre´s F, Terrados N, Fernandez B, Lucia A. Thyroid hormone levels during a three week professional road cycling competition. Horm Res 2001: 56: 159–164.

I do not have access to the article, but according to other articles, they reported haemoglobin and haematocrit levels at the end of the vuelta on the 16 riders they studied (13.8 +/- 0.7 g/dLand 41.9 +/- 2.4 %). I do not know if they reported the levels at the beginning, but that seems propable.
No I don't think that is it. I'll look for it again on Monday if I have time. And re-reading my post, I don't think the mean was around 2-4% drop but 2-4 Hct points which would obviously be a higher percentage but I'm pretty sure between 2 and 3 standard deviations did cross 0 indicating a small percentage of riders should either maintain or increase their HCT.

but there are some dodgy doping doctors involved in that study.

BS if you know they are doing EPO.

Crank, Smoothie is good, but he is not always right on the money, some of his info is not 100% correct.

But re: the doping culture, and knowledge of whats what, he is down with it.

Considering that Simoni's mouth is as big as your's and that he is as big a whinger as you I can see your affinity for him. But Simoni's talent was never as big as his mouth. His wins outside of Italy are virtually non existent. His wins in the Giro only happened because all of the real talent was pointing for the Tour. Now Simoni is washed up and the only attention that he can get is by running his mouth. Again, just like you. If Simoni can get into the top 5 it will be pure luck and the fact that very few of the best riders will be in the Giro once again. In fact, you can find more talent in most of the second and third tier races than you will find in this year's Giro. But even with that, rantin Simoni won't make the podium. I guarantee it.
