I acquired a nice all chrome 72 Schwinn Super LeTour road bike, mostly = original, and have been
trying to find, without success, an appropriate = stem and handlebar for it. It has to have a 21.1
mm diameter (not the = standard - 22.2 I think) and I'd like it to be more or less -17 degrees =
(level with ground) with an extension about 120 mm. I haven't been able = to find one in local shops
(even at that used bike place on Telegraph in = Berkeley) or online. Anyone have any ideas where I
might look (or have = one laying around?)?

I'm also looking for 44 cm (center to center) aluminum drop handlebars = for the same bike,
preferably with flat places on the dropped part (is = that called "ergo"?), although I can just buy
those new if need be.

Not painted, as I'm trying to make it look 'right'. --=20 Steve Juniper ([email protected])

The size is 13/16"

Never seen a 120 in that format, but I have seen 100mm stems like that.

Finding that bar with a 25.4mm clamp size may be a little tough as 26.0mm will be much more common.
But your stem is not going to be 26.0.

Nope. It's .833" or five-sixths of an inch. Insane but true. That size standard survived until the
mid-1990s on BMX bikes, and AFAIK is still in use on beach cruisers and cheap kid bikes.

13/16" was used for some Schwinn seatposts. Pretty lame seatposts they were, too.

Yours is a tall order, as bikes equipped with 21.1 stems were rarely equipped with stems that long.

Best bet is to comb through the most populous bike junkyard you can find. In addition to mid-'70s
and older Schwinns, all quill-stem Huffys, Murrays, Free Spirits, Western Flyers, etc., etc. came
fitted with 21.1 stems, so a little persistence could bag you a suitable one.

You could also switch to a period-appropriate 27" Tange box-crown fork or similar, which would
accept the more ubiquitous 22.2mm size stem. Make a point to find one with a compatible crown race
seat diameter
(26.4mm) because many are 27.0mm.
