I ahve a 20 year old Peugeot, looking to tour this summer with it. Has anyone done a long tour with a Peugeot, if so, what kind of luck did you have?

Too many parts not easy to find in the US. Pick a touring bike that has more parts that you can find replacements at most bike shops when touring.

I have a Peugot of that vintage, but using it locally lets me ride another of my bikes while determining what broken part is compatibly with other brands, or what parts can be swapped from another bike. If touring you don't have the luxury of special ordering or fabbing your own parts.

I never found a Simplex front der-at least a chainring can be changed when stopped with a tiewrap until I see if a Durace fder will fit the French tubes.

I work for a Touring company and i fixed up a old peugeot and it is the best bike I have ever riden very smooth. It has 21 speeds with a Ultegra triple crank and BB and Sora Derailleurs and Shifters. Some of the older U class of Peugeots are all french tread and you will have to swap out just about everything, I would take it to your local bike shop and ask them what kind of threading your BB has because that is the most important part I would say you would want to swap. It is a bad Idea to go on a long ride with the old french pin crankset. But i will soon be buying that bike off my work and upgrading it to all Ultegra or maybe even Dura-ace! Hope you enjoy your Peugeot Check out ebay for some that are worth fixing up if yours isnt!
