How much does it cost when an American citizen is on welfare? I think there
are a few of those people too. It's kind of ironic that a person posting
from Australia is complaining about a high number of people in America who
are on welfare when Australia is plagued by this phenomenon.

When I was age 16-18 I worked in a nursery digging holes and clearing brush
in the snow and cold, for less than $2/hour (minimum wage). Who will do that
for that rate these days?

How often does this happen? If some alien pics my number and works a

Almost no American teenagers today that's for damn sure.
The last co. that I worked for had hired a kid for minimum, but used his own
truck to haul all their **** too. He had a great attitude, did all the ****
work, didn't have much for skills but was willing to give anything a shot if
you asked.
The one catch was that he was mildly stoned about half the time,never really
wasted at work which really didn't matter for 95% of what he did.
He got canned over all of our objections. Since there were no benefits anyway
we tried to get have him hired back on as an independent contractor, and he was
willing but, no go.
The kid was pure gold to the company because of his attitude and cost. Instead
they went through a couple of other guys for more money who were assholes. Then
ended up having us skilled types do the **** work at triple the cost or better.
Now that I'm on my own I keep on real good terms with him for when I've got to
dig holes and ****, and I throw in a case of beer now and then too.

No, you wont even get your own money when you're 67. They're using your
money to pay someone's benefits TODAY.

It's true that your benefits are calculated based upon what you pay in.
So getting illegal aliens to use your SSN would be beneficial anyway.

Oakland has gone so far as to put up areas where illegal aliens can
gather so that people who require day laborers can drive by and pick
them up. They stand out there by the hundreds. And quite a number of
these people vote illegally. No one checks them out.

Legal immigration is fine. The problem is that illegals are pouring
over the borders and absorbing the taxes of legitimate citizens.

The ******* tax system is set up so that the top 40% of tax earners
pay 90% of all taxes. With a system like that of COURSE there are 60%
of the population that are more than happy to vote to increase taxes
and government services. And this is a sure way to push this
government further and futher into a socialist hole until we are
nothing more than a Maoist regime.

Those ranting about it may be somewhat off message but don't pretend
that the problem isn't real.

Firstly, let's get this straight - illegal aliens pay essentially ZERO
taxes. The entire lower half of the income earners in this country pay
only 4% of all income taxes. States lose far, FAR more in services to
illegal aliens then they collect in any state taxes.

House renters do not pay property taxes - home OWNERS do. You might
want to consider the relationship there.

Since most illegal aliens work in jobs that are not subject to social
security I wonder why you'd believe that they pay SS? BTW - can you
suggest where this Social Security "bank" is in which there are SS
funds that illegal aliens deposit but can't withdraw? Hmm, could it be
that ALL SS funds go directly into the General Fund and pay for normal
government services - more of which the lower income groups recieve
than pay for?

It is almost unbelieveable how people can live so insulated. The
reason that you don't see Americans working these jobs is because
there is cheap illegal alien laborers who generally do a better job
and complain less.

If they weren't there you'd be surprised at how many Americans would
be willing to do the work.

Maybe in your area. Out here illegals aren't a real big problem. The farms have
actually had to step up their migrant worker programs though because the area
kids who used to want the work wont do it anymore. They got together and built
what is basically a set of military barracks, bought a bunch of busses, set up
programs with the local Health Center and found volunteer english tutors to
help out. They pay to fly people who want to work from Haiti and the Dominican
Republic. Most of them stay from May through Oct. and quite a few have been
coming for decades. Some are even 2nd generation.
It used to be almost all tobacco, but that's pretty much gone so now it's
market vegetables.
Our farmers have figured out that works better here to work within the system
and take good care of the people they get.

You can go to lots of places, and not just in the USA, where there are
enclaves of foreign-speaking citizens. That would include folks of many
origins. Such as in Chicago where one side of the street might have a community
newspaper stand with papers in one language, and across the street is another
paper stand, contents in another language, and neither is English.

They do the dirty/dangerous work, by and large, that others let pass. You can
dispute this if you want, I worked in the trades in Austin, Texas for ten
years. The labor pickup places are busy, aren't they?

The practice of hiring illegals adds to the bottom line for contractors,
including some mighty big ones who supply janitorial services for Target and
Walmart.

There might be a more efficient way to provide these workers with "social
services" than throught the tax system. Paying them more so they can "buy their
own" comes to mind.

Schools a government service? Also one of the remaining remnants of the Melting
Pot.

This is contradictory. First you say that aliens do it better and cheaper
but you still prefer the work to be done by "Americans"? I guess what you're
saying then is that if there were no "aliens to do the work we could get
"Americans" to do it instead, but at a higher rate, with more complaining,
and lower-quality work. Is that better?
