I have just learned that Saris is now shipping the PT SL. I talked with them and learned that the production problem was the result of (1) an unadvised change in o-rings by one of their Taiwan suppliers (Joytech); and (2) inadequate quality control. Their overall problem rate was about 10%, although that varied from dealer to dealer. They have made production and quality control changes and the Saris employees have been riding the new production units for a while now. They are highly confident of the quality of the new units. They have been shipping replacement units for warranty returns for a couple of weeks, and began shipping new orders 2 days ago. I have ordered an SL body and will post a ride report in a few weeks.

As an "FYI" I received my repaired SL wheel 3 weeks ago, and it has been working perfectly since then, both in training and in 3 criteriums. The o-ring problem resulted in poor water seals, I was told that employees have ridden the "corrected" hub through garden hose soakings to ensure that the updated versions are truly water resistant. I must admit some skepticism with the 10% problem rate, based on the riders I know who had problems it seemed higher; according to the packing sheet that came back with my repaired hub, Saris replaced a lot of components, including the torque tube. But to repeat the bottom line - the repaired unit is working perfectly, so I really do believe that Saris has solved this one!
