I want to build myself a nice new lightweight real wheel mainly for road use but off course some offroad as it is a mountain bike. I have a fair bit to spend but not crazy amounts. I've been looking at a hope bulb hub, it weighs 375 grams, anyone no much about this hub? and what spokes should i go for? what weight are we talking for 32 spokes? and using a mavic 517 rim. I want this wheel to be as light as possible so im sure you guys no what is best to use.

Thanx :D

Hope is a good hub.
Mavic 517 are good light weight rims.
DT Competition DB 14/15 spokes are a great comprimise of weight and strength.
Now, for your part, go to Sheldon Brown's at URL:

You will find wheel building instructions and other basics like calculating spoke lengths at this URL.

If you are really counting grams, have you checked out the Shimano XTR and Chris King hubs? Very nice high quality, lightweight hubs. :)

[I am using a hope xc disc hubs with a mavic 317(disc only) up front and a 517(current frame has only v-brake mounts rear), which I built with DT revolution spokes. Although an xc set up, I do some fairly hardcore riding (will take drops offs up to about 3 feet) and the wheels are holding up better than any others I have had in the last 12 years. Did consider more custom bits, but gatting axles/ spares is a right pain! hope this helps.
