Day Nine: Norwich to Repps via Wroxham
OS Landranger maps are fantastic or cycling around the countryside. They show just the right amount
of detail to navigate by, they show pub locations (most important), and they also help me to select
a destination. However, they are no use whatsoever for navigating around urban areas. Especially
Norwich! I ended taken the long way around the ring road, got caught up behind the Truckers' Charity
Rally, and eventually found myself on a unknown road after following a sign for the B1150. I was
lost, but I did find a Tesco with a restaurant so I didn't really care.
After my "mega breakfast" my thought processes became clearer and I worked out my location, and
continued to Coltishall. Out of a peloton of about 20 roadies, only 2 of them waved or nodded
back at me.
A quick stop at Hoveton & Wroxham station let me check return train times to Norwich next Friday.
The A road from Wroxham took me almost to my destination, a camp site on the River Thurne.
My friend, Simon, is arriving tomorrow with my road bike so a few fast day rides will be happening.
I think a trip to Great Yarmouth is needed along with a blast along the coast road.
I just hope I can handle the change of gearing: My tourer is 42,32,26 with 12-28x7. My racer is
52,42 with 14-28x7, and stil has downtube shifters.
Essentially the tour is now over since the campsite will now be a basecamp. I can only say that
Norfolk is *not* flat. The villages are pretty, the locals are friendly, but the connecting roads
are not terribly exciting. Once you've seen one combine harvester you have seen them all.
Hope you have enjoyed reading my diary: I've enjoyed writing it!
