The word 'Palmares' is commonly used in cyclesport and has been for a while. Its first use on the
google index of usenet is 1993.

I never heard the word when I was into cycling in my youth, up to around 1991. Where does it
come from?

Like about 70% of the words in "English", it's French. Means honours.

It was first used in cycling terms on January 16th, 1993 in an obscure village in Provence, called
St.Cecile le Vignes, at about 10.32 am. by M. Levelo, the local warble fly inspector, while
referring to the great basque climber, Hektor Klimelikefukery.
