Brake problem

I have a Cervelo Dual 10 and love it.

One problem is that the rear brake is hard to pull on and feels like the cable is grabbing somewhere along the routing. The caliper does not spring back open and the cable goes limp in the brake lever itself.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Undo the brake cable from the calipers and check that the caliper return spring is working. If it is, then change the cable guide adjacent the brake, and the cable. If the spring has failed, then fix it or have your LBS look at it.

Clean and lube everything (brake pivots especially) and check for kinking or twisting of the cable run before you replace something that is not broken.

when was the cable changed last ? unless you soldered the end to stop it spreading then new is easier + cover of course .

I have just discovered a similar problem with my rear brake: Brake lever feels 'grabby' & caliper is not fully opening. It's just the last little bit of return.

I have lubed everything but no improvement.

I should note that my bike only has about 1,000km on it (Shimano 105). However, the last 300 or so have been done in the Irish winter. My rear brake gets covered in lots of '****' on every rideb & there is no local bike shop where I live in Cavan.

It feels to me that the sticking seems to be coming from the cable going through the housing from the lever, because when I pull the cable by hand the brake fully returns.

Any help will be appreciated.

I had the exact braking problem last fall. Replacing the cables corrected the issue. When I removed the cable from the housing I was surprised how much grime was on the cable. I think the problem for me is the sweat that runs into the housing. I live in SE Texas and summer riding will dehydrate the body fast.

Actually I'ver sorted my problem. I lubed the whole length of the rear brake cable. Did it without removing any housing. Unclipped ythe front & rear housings from under top tube. Pulled the start od cable from shifter. Lubed thge cable & moved it back & forth a few times through the housing. Now everything is silky smooth.

I have done the majority of my cycling in Australia (Sydney warm & dry & never muddy) bike stays pretty clean except for l.ubricant spatter.

Ireland (Cavan Country town lots of farms around tractors on the roads): bike (& me) gets covered in crud on almost every ride so some of it gets between cables & housing.
