I'm not a rich man. It's time to build some new wheels.

I have some 3-4 year old Ultegra hubs that are in good shape. I really like the black 105 hubs.

Question: has the quality improved over the past 4 years? Are the 105's of similar quality to what
Ultegra was 4 years ago?

Any known problems with the 105's.

I commute the SF area about 100 miles a week plus Mt. Tam climbs on the weekends.

TIA

If your hubs are in really good shape, it probably doesn't make sense to buy new ones, especially if
you have current-style Ultegra hubs (the ones that came out when 9-speed Ultegra made its debut).
Most likely the new '105 hubs will have a lower-quality set of bearing races and possibly seals that
don't work quite as well. However, if your rear cassette mechanism is in less-than-pristine
condition, a new rear hub could be worthwhile (since the cost of the cassette mechanism is close to
the price of a hub).

No, the 1998/9 or so ultegra hubs are of a better quality, ball, cone and race wise, than 105 of
today.1998 uyltegra hubs, when maintained, are great hubs. VERY similar to DA w/o the titanium.
