what's a good time for a cross-USA bike tour?

hey guys,

I am planning to bike across the Unites States this spring.
Due to job requirements and a tight budget, I am not gonna be doing much tourism, I just wanna bike across as fast as I can (I am sure I'm still gonna see a lot of the countryside)

Does anyone know what is a realistic time for the trip?

I met a guy once who made it from Washington State to Maine in 14.5 days. My route would be something similar or maybe something like LA to Boston.

Anyone know of any record times for a cross-US bike tour?

thanks a lot

Take a look at http://www.abbike.com

They have both fast and more regular speed cross country tours. if you are a fit touring cyclist I'd say 50 to 60 days would be good

check the RAAM web site. the race across america is quite a feat, I think the record is 7 days and something.thats from san diego to atlantic city.

In a situation like yours you would want to consult some meteorological atlas
to check weather conditions for the periods you expect to be on the road. Weather can be funny. April or May should be a good time to begin. Two months should be enough time to complete the trip on a loaded tour. Two weeks for a tour of that length is not bike touring or recreational cycling.
