What's the best bike shop in Paris?

A buddy of mine is in Paris right now, to catch the final stage - lucky sod. I've been pestering him to get me a pair of Dugast Strada silk tires, but so far the bike shops he's checked with don't have them.

Can anyone recommend an elite bike shop in Paris that would carry high end equipment like this?

Have you found any bike shops in Paris yet? I'm looking for the Tour de France lion. I was told that it is sold at a bike shop on Ave. de la grande armee, opposite the Champs. Its smaller than the podium size lion.

Does the decathelon store have a web site. I'm looking for the Tour de France Credit Lyonnais podium lion or the smaller one sold in stores in Paris. Any suggestions

I were in Paris last year and could not find a bike shop in Paris but there is a Decathlon store on Rue de Madeleine. It's just off the Champs Eulesee (how ever you spell it). Please take note that it is prenounced "De-ka-tor". I was looked at funny prenouncing it the "english" way. I did manage to buy a few TdF memorabillia all over the place in T-shirt shops and curious shops. Even as far down as Monte Carlo I found some stuff. I must add that some of it were not cheap.

Funny thing about Paris -- I've been there twice and I have never seen anyone on a road bike there! Locked or riding...

I have been to three bike shops in Paris, all very good by North American standards. Two of them are within a couple of blocks of each other, a few minutes walk past the Arc De Triomphe, along the Avenue de la Grande Armee. The one shop had a Colnago DaVinci bike hanging in the window. Another, shop, rather small, but fully stocked with Tour de France goodies, as well as a nice selection of Pinarello frames, is in the Opera/Montmartre section. I can't remember the names of any of the stores, but the first two are very easy to find.

I just checked my map of Paris, the third shop is right near the Place de la Republique, along Boulevard Voltare.

Get out of Paris, and into the countryside, and they are everywhere. I'm sure I saw a few pro's out training.

It really is no mystery why no Frenchman has won his nation's Tour in a quarter century. For a week here, I've been biking at least 50kms a day in Paris and have yet to see a racer except in a pathetic 3km circuit in Vincennes Bois Parque. No bike shops anywhere, even in the 'burbs.

"Every city has a snobby bike shop that all the cool kids hate and all the rich middle-aged hobby road bikers frequent. This store is just that. Opened in 1930 and now managed by the third generation of enthusiastic cyclists, this is a place where chain oil is permanently stuck under fingernails. If you've got money to drop, this is a good place to do it. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will get you fixed up in no time at all

with not a Euro cent to spare. If you're broke, just make sure to use their bike pump. "
