Re: Review Casts Doubt on Soy Health Benefits

I know that the subject pertains to soy proteins, not lipids, but I can't
resist mentioning a problem with research funded by the "vegetable" oil (soy
oil; soylent-yellow) industry.

Under pressure from the seed oils industry the results of the foundational
studies about dietary saturated fat, which were mostly done prior to 1971,
were misinterpreted. Then the American Heart Ass. and the FDA began
condemning the consumption of saturated fats in favor of unsaturated fats.

Mark my words: Some time during the next 5 years official statements about
the saturated fat paradigm will be widely publicized; that not all saturated
fats are bad, and that in fact it's the excessive amounts of polyunsaturated
fats, particulary linoleic acid (omega-6 fat) which are causing more health
problems than the bad saturated fats. Realisticly, such a statement is
unlikely to come from the American Heart Ass. because then they would have
to eat crow after being being the chief propagator of general misinformation
about dietary saturated fat for at least the past 35 years.

Fresh whipped cream, unsweetened, is bad? :)

Depends on who the person is, what he/she has already had to eat that day
(or is planning to eat later on), and the level of quality of the cream.
First of all cream is not good for anyone who is either lactose intolerant,
or has an allergic reaction to dairy products, or who has a tendency to
become constipated for any reason. If neither is the case, then on Monday
afternoon if you've already got too much omega-6 fat from seed oils (other
than flax or borage seed), then it would be better to choose cream with
supper rather than to have more seed oil that day. But not all full-fat
creams are equal. Cream from a Holstein cow, that has been fed grains and
given antibiotics and hormones does your body more harm than good. However,
organicly produced cream from a goat, sheep, Jersey cow, or Guernsey cow
that has been fed only grass (not fed grains) is a healthy choice. The breed
of cow is an important consideration. Only Jersey and Guernsey cows produce
milk that does not contain harmful A1 beta-casein.

Now suppose on Tuesday you've already had some quality cream for breakfast
with high-omega-3 eggs and later on had some wild salmon and very little
other fats. On that day you would be better off choosing extra virgin olive
oil with your supper rather than eating any more saturated fats.
