i had been in recreative cycling for 2 years and had been riding only from april to october with no paticular trining plan.month ago i started training in local club and my coach thinks i can go on national championship(jun)with good training plan.i have been working on this for a month and got new plan for may that includes about 500km/week.i did just 3 training days and got sick -now i ve been sitting at home for 6 days and i am worried about my season.how much this 6 days of no cycling can harm to my fitness and shape?generaly i have this problem cause i am student and it takes a lot of me(sometimes i am learning all night).also i dont have home trainer so bad weather also influence on my cycling.

No! of course not. My training plan incorporates a rest week into about every 4 to 5 weeks of training. While it generally is not completely off bike it usually has more days totally off and the rest are low time, easy zone 1 rides. It allows the body to rest and rebuild. Taking a week completely off is not too much different and is better than trying to train while sick! People often find when they have a little forced time off they actually come back stronger than they were before, so no worries. A week is not going to hurt your fitness - it may even help.

Not at all! Considering you've only been riding a couple of years you actually SHOULD take a week off every couple of months or so......I am Cat 1 and I took 3 weeks off in January, and will take a week off in 10 days for business committments. My legs usually feel refreshed and stronger after a break, but the first couple of days back I seem to breathe a little harder than normal. This soon goes away though. It's actually quite common to get a personal best on power output after a week's rest.

also - if you're studying all night, and then try and go on a long training ride (esp in the rain) the next day whilst short of sleep you will run your immune system right down and get ill.....train when you know it's effective, and rest when you need to. You really need to get quality sleep if you want to be a good racer.

As the others have said, 6 days off during one's training plan is not a big problem. However, 6 days off after only being on the plan for 3 days pretty much means you're still at square one regarding your training plan.

If you think the illness was fatigue related, then I'd wonder whether the new training plan and nationals competition in 1.5 months is really compatible with your school and life commitments. Talk to your coach about it. Have you ever raced before?

i had one race two months ago(got bronze) and two chronometers(hills )-was firts .oncewas in criterium and it was not so good cause i didnt know anything about criterium rules and tips.also it was recrative race man and women all ages together and average speed of the winner was 42km/h.mine was 36km/h.oth races were 35km long.in a 3 days i ll have one more crit and ill climb.
it will be hard cause i have minimum hard exams in jun!i ll try,but my studies have to be in front of everything.(it is hard for me to decide weather i should give up on cycling,i love it too much!)

You're done, cooked, baked. There is no reason to believe you could even compete with toddlers. Hang it up already.

You will be fine. It is better to take a rest when sick, rather than attempt to train through it. It might take a few weeks to get your legs back, but you will be back stronger once you catch up.

Trust your coach.

It will take you another 5 or so days to get back to your performance levels -- so you're only about 2 weeks behind. No big deal and if you coach is competant, can work around this.
