Cincinnati officials will investigate if the city can use $2.6 million in
federal transportation dollars for a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the Little
Miami River.

Councilman Jeff Berding suggested it because he said the lack of a bridge is the
biggest impediment to both a permanent bike path linking the Little Miami Scenic
Trail to the trail at Lunken Airport and a temporary one activists are working
to raise private money to build.

Councilman John Cranley said the trail is "clearly what progressive cities are
doing" and said he hopes it might eventually connect to the West Side.

The money is the city's allotment from President Bush's 2005 Safe, Accountable,
Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act.
