Does anyone know the cheapest way to post/courier a boxed up bike from Sydney to Perth? Any suggestions except the 'put it on a Greyhound and hope for the best' option, cheers
I've had a couple of quotes but they are pretty steep, $700 door to door. I know there must be cheaper couriers cause I've received bulky stuff for heaps less but wasn't sure if that was as a result of the seller having bulk discount, guess ill just keep looking, thanks anyway

do you know anyone who works in freight/transport? Companies likes Shaws / Tri-State Transport would ship it for a good price depot to depot (i.e. a case of beer ot two) but you'd need to know someone in the company who would make sure to look after it for you on the trip. (i.e. top load it, hand load/unload it).
they aren't too bad on the send part the pack part they are expensive. i recently shipped a frame sydney > adelaide with them, which was in a pretty good size box (ie nearly big enough to pack an entire bike in sans wheels). it was $75'ish (for them to supply a box to fit the frame they quoted $80 on top of the shipping, which was silly imo).
i couldn't imagine if you disassembled the bike and packed it that the price to ship it would more than say double.
^ My LBS charged me $30 to disassemble and pack my bike in an appropriate box (they DO, after all, have quite a few bike-sized boxes lying around! )
i imagine a similar service would be available almost anywhere.
