Despite his success in today's race, Tilford is realistic about his
chances of winning this weekend's elite men's race. "Realistically,
four or five guys would have to have pretty off days for me to win the
race," he said.

Classic cherrypicking. I thought USAC was doing something about this
kind of ****?

If you're in the top 5 elites then why are you racing age graded cat
nats?

Is it Tilford's fault that only four or five elite riders are
consistently better than him? Are you suggesting that if you're old
and too good, you can't be champion of your age group?

Nonsense. FWIW, there are provisions for preventing pros from riding
age-group races. I suppose there's some sort of an advantage to
living the 12k dream that makes an old pro better than an old amateur,
but other than that, if you are chronilogically qualified for a
particular age group, go fo it.

To practice on the course under race conditions?
