What's the Best Car for Cycling?

I thought this might be an interesting topic. What cars are good for a biker? Do you base you car decisions off the fact that you bike? If you have a good vehicle to go with your cycling? Do you like to put your bike in or outside the car? Whatever comes to mind

I have a nissan maxima and can carry one bike in the trunk with the back seats folded down but wouldn't consider it a great car to go with biking, off the top of my head maybe a mazda3 or mazda6 wagon for more room, what do you think?

I have a Toyota Rav-4 - 2007. I love it to death and its great for road trips with the bike. I put the bike inside the car but I have many options of putting it on the outside as well!

I didn't buy the car b/c of the bike necessarily, but bought the car cuz I could use the room for the bike, and going offroads. Beats the hell out of my old 94' Corolla!

Re: What's the Best Car for Cycling?

I drive a Toyota Tacoma and place my bike in the back. I have had the truck about 7 years now.

The Rav4 would be a good choice but if I were to buy a newer vehicle based on bicycling hauling I would also look at the Honda Element. Its rubber cargo mats and fold up seats seem to lend themselves to an active outdoor lifestyle.

Re: What's the Best Car for Cycling?

If i could have any car, probably a 32' coupe, or a yeanko nova, but their no good for bikes, and in price, but I have a Dodge grand caravan sport addition, you take out the seats, and you got tons of room for bikes

Re: What's the Best Car for Cycling?

I have a Ford F150 Pickup Truck with the small V6 engine. It has a Delta Bike Rack in the back with room for 4 bicycles, but I usually only carry two at a time. My bicycling did not drive my decision to buy this truck though.

Before the truck I had a 1996 Ford Probe and it was absolutely worthless for carrying a bicycle. I could fit one in as long as both rear seats were folded down and I still had to remove the front wheel.

1999 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport. Bikes easily fit in, no need for an external rack that can scratch your frame.

My license plates are - RDBIKER !

Re: What's the Best Car for Cycling?

A 05 Honda Odyssey most of the time, we bike as a family for the most part, out fitted with a Grabber 5 bike rack, plus we can get a couple in side even with the middle row seats. Other times, my Nissan Titan, with the rack or in the bed, topped with a Mpulse topper, great security when travelling, but not the greatest gas mileage.

I don't know, but ask Al Gore. I'm sure he will recommend some unexciting hybrid slug that will meet your needs for getting from A to B.

No kidding. The last thing we need is to be energy conscious. Jeez. If you do that then we won't get to have more of our own kids killed in war, and we won't get to have a jolly good time killing innocent people in other countries whose oil we're trying to liberate.....er, I mean whose people we're trying to liberate....
