Hey guys, I'm a new fish here on the forum so forgive me if something like this has already been asked.
Anyways, I've got a trusty trek 1000 that im looking to upgrade with regards to componentry. Heading off to college at cornell in about a month and a half and i plan to join the cycling club. from what i hear, the ithaca region is hilly as hell, so i figure i'd best switch out the old sora crap on this bike. as for exactly how plan to use this thing...i don't plan to be racing much at all (maybe once in the fall and twice in the spring), as I mainly use my bike for commuting, fitness, and recreational pace rides. at the same time, im not a total newbie to the sport and can ride pretty intensely.
i'm pretty much certain that im gonna go with shimano 105, which i know is a solid, cost-effective, workhorse kind of system. the question i have is: should i go with a 5600 series or 5700 series groupset? all i know is that the 5700 is a bit newer, but i honestly have no idea what the difference is. i was hoping that maybe someone with experience could take a look at my situation here and give me a pointer. based on pricing online, im leaning towards 5600, which is significantly cheaper, as i doubt there's that much difference in performance. but maybe i'm wrong? maybe 5700 is worth the extra bank?
here's the 5600 groupset i was considering by the way: http://www.probikekit.com/us/components/groupsets/shimano-105-5600-bicycle-groupset.html
