Is It Just Me or Is Everyone Seeing The SAME Posts?

Don't want to step on any toes here, but I'm seeing so many of the same posts over and over, I wonder why nobody uses the search feature? In lots of cases there are the same posts even on the first page! I realize everyone their own questions, but I can't help but notice that there are lots of times the exact same questions are answered in different posts...

Maybe I shouldn't have got out of bed this morning  Am I out of line here or is anyone else thinking the same thing?

It's the same everywhere. One site has tried to get around it by going to a FAQ page. But if no one uses it....The concept, and value of a decent $20 repair reference also seems to escape too many, and the Park tool site is a great free reference.

You're both right... and that's simply the nature of a discussion forum. Folks could search old threads for answers, and many likely do (you just wouldn't know it, because they're not posting new threads to announce what they've done).

In the end though, the natural tendency at a site like this is to want personalized advice. You know, a little dialogue. That's the case whether the advice is some archane puzzler or something along the lines of, "Upgrading from Sora -- Advice?"

The solution is to either set up a "Really Unusual or Difficult Questions Only" sub-forum, or simply deal with it. I think it's not so bad.

Do you frequent anandtech.com's "Highly Technical" forum or do a lot of sites have such sub-forums? :)

What? You object to another Campy vs Shimano debate? Carbon vs aluminum vs steel frame debate? Tubular vs clincher debate?

Or we could get back to the 'thread from hell' - dare I say it - the dreaded Carbon Seatpost Debate?

Yes, and yes....

Ahhh, those are all great (awful) ones. And they'll never go away. Never. Which is ok, right? There will always be someone new to the forum, someone for whom those questions are fresh, someone who came to the site to chat with folks rather than dig through archives.

Like I said, it's just the nature of the discussion forum. Unless you decide to start locking out new members, that's how it's going to be. Whateves, says I.

Its like snack ... you eat over and over again either you love em or you hate em, when they're no real food around we just enjoy em

Sometimes I'm just so happy to see a new post or poll to keep the ole' forum fires burning... When you do a search (which we all do) the posts and whatever idea was in there just stay somewhere back in archive-land, unless the searcher adds something -- and sometimes you just feel kind of stupid replying to a thread posted a year ago.

I just wish more folks would get a little inventive, dig down deep inside and create some new good new threads and polls.... EVen if sometimes they're a little redundant (sp.?)
