What happens next? - bowel cancer

Hi all, forgive me if I am asking for something that might
have been done before, but just came across this group - the
hour is late, and tomorrow I am booked in for surgery cause
I have bowel cancer - not a happy person at the moment.

Ten days ago I was fine except for a low level pain in the
guts - just put it down to being 50 and not being fit as I
should be, so ignored it for a few weeks until my wife
harrassed me to see our local GP.

Have been told I will be a week - 10 days in hospital, then
another two weeks to get back on my feet - is this accurate,
and what happens afterward - they are going to do
scans/blood tests tomorrow before I go under, but I really
have no idea what the hell is going to happen.

Dying doesnt worry me, but a long slow painful death
does - and I dont really know what I need to
ask......sorry, I pride myself on being rational, but
not doing too well on this one.

Wont be able to read replies until I get back home, but if
anyone can speak of their own (hopefully positive)
experiences I would welcome the information.

Probably if it's open surgery as opposed to
Laparoscopic surgery.
