Default The art of ignorance.

Is he brain-dead or what? :

Mugabe gets 20 percent pay rise

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has been given a 20 percent salary increase, his second pay rise this year, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Government ministers and lawmakers from Mugabe's ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF), as well as parliamentarians from the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) will also receive pay increases, the paper said.

The paper quoted a government notice published last week announcing that Mugabe's annual salary would be increased to Zim$1.6-million (US$29 000) from Zim$1.3-million (US$23 000).

Mugabe, who received a pay increase in February, will have the latest salary increment backdated to July, the paper added.

Zimbabwe is in the middle of its worst economic crisis with inflation close to 140 per cent. Around 80 percent of Zimbabweans live in poverty.
Hmm, now if we convert his salary at the black market rate then we get something a little less than $29 000 (probably closer to $5000 or so per year). Hmm, of course this is all meaningless to a guy who is reputedly worth Billions of US Dollars (and is one of the largest land owners in the world).

The Sad thing is that the man is NOT ignorant. He is fully aware of what he is doing to his people, and he does not give a stuff. He is just in the business of staying in power, rewarding his cronies and cementing his position (mustn't forget that when he loses power he will no doubt be fast on the slope to being stripped of his assets, tried for war crimes etc)

Hey, give the guy a break! He's a politician and that's what politicians do! Unfortunately it's also what the masses expect their leaders to do! Why else? And I'm not holding my breath waiting for Mugabe to be stripped of his assets or being charged with war crimes!
