Default Avid 165mm Rotors

I have a pre-owned bike with Avid mechanical disk brakes. I have heard/read there are different "flavors" of the 165mm rotor. Pre '01 is different from '01 and late '01 - 02 are different as well. Anyone know the real skinny here.

There are differences, but I don't know the details.
