I am a muscular guy who is lean but carry extra muscle on the bike. As a bike racer and a duathlete this serves to put me at a disadvantage. Any suggestions on how to drop some muscle mass (around 10 lbs). I have cut out the upper body weights recently but would like to hear more. Thanks

that's easy! if endurance rides aren't doing it on their own, you'll atrophy yourself nicely just by reducing protein intake. don't go crazy ... try a 10% reduction and see what happens. |

i'm trying to do the same thing.... i was working out 4-5 times a week (the end of junior year and all throughout my senior year in high school) and now im trying to lean and get rid of the extra weight (mostly upper body)... since entering college i've cut down going to the gym to twice a week where i'll work out the abs and other stuff and just try to rep a whole lot more. then i picked up swimming and i try to do that 3-4 times a week. now im on the road with my bike 4-5 times a week. so far since the beginning of summer (end of may) i was at 175 lbs (im 6'1" w/o shoes) and 'built'. today, july 31, im down to 169 lbs. i can no longer put up as much weight as i once did in the beginning of summer, but i still have my 'built' upper body platform. am i happy... yes. am i noticing the less weight on the bike... yes. going to drop a couple more lbs w/o losing my 'upper body platform'. hopefully this will give u some ideas, good luck - Chaz |
