Default Difference In Brooks Saddles?

I purchased a B17 standard and a B17 narrow from bike
nashbar. Easch came in a brooks box and were very hard at
first. I just received a b17 standard from wallbike.com . It
came on a hanging card and is a much softer leather and is
showing my sit bone indents after 20 miles. Is there a
difference in quality between the boxed and hanging saddles?

I think it's more a lack of standardization in the leather.

I've got one B-17 that's quite supple, another that's hard
as a rock, and another that's somewhere in-between.

I also have one B17 that was pretty soft within 100 hundred
miles, and now another one thats just barely starting to
mold itself after 600 miles. The second one was one of the
fancy B17's (british racing green). Some stuff written by
Rivendell would lead you to believe that different B17
models come with different thicknesses of leather (http://r-

Yes you have got it Peter. In spite of the advances in genetic engineering,
living beasts - including cows - are less standardized than say deraillers or
BBs :-)
