I have an 01 C'dale xr800 and want to run a mtb derailleur
and cassette to get lower gear. It has 12-25 now but will an 11 tooth cassette fit on this hub. I know I need a new chain too and that the 105 brifters will work on mtb derailleur. |

The 11/32 cassette and mtb rear der should work just dandy on your bike. I do believe the 11/32 cassette requires a special lockring which would come with the cassette if purchased new. You might look at a 12/34 cassette if you really need the gearing. Make sure that you get a long-cage derailluer. The XT series of equipment is a very good value. |

I've got all 105 except for a Deore XT derailleur and a cassette with a wider gear range (probably 11-32 like yours, although I'm not totally sure.) It works fine, although sometimes I still find myself wishing I'd blown the cash to go to a 105 triple setup. That girl could climb a wall! |

With the 11/34 cassette, perfect for that climb from Kona to Kamuela! |

I can believe it... although the climb from Kona to Kamuela is a long one if you take the "up" road... take the coastal highway to Kawaihae and then up the twisty road to Kona and it'll hurt, probably. I'd love a 30:34 low gear ratio for the steep hills over here; my current one is more like a 39:32 or 39:30. Beats the stock 39:26, but still! -- Dan Birchall, Hilo HI - http://dan.birchalls.net/ - images, words, technology |
