Default Power Tap Software Problem -- Won't Work!

I installed the software today, seemingly went OK. I plugged in the unit to my serial port. I used to use the HAC4 download via that port. The HAC4 software is still installed, but NOT running on the PC.

When I started up the PT software, it shows me the nice little menu. When I try to do anything on it other than 'options', it craps out at says:

Runtime error '-214746729 (80004005)
[Microsoft}{ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

This is annoying! I run Windows XP, and even the crude and junky HAC4 s/w worked. I don't get it. I checked to make sure the cable's tight, the unit is snapped on and 'awake', that the software is installed right (2x), that Com1 is selected as the port under 'options' (although I tried all the others, rebooting in between). I even went into Control Panel and hardware and checked to make sure the port was working OK.

Of course, Cycleops is closed on the weekends, and during all the hours I'm home to work on it.
