Anyone have any tips on how to recreate old decals. My friend is in the
final stages of restoring a Teledyne to original hyper-trick condition (found the Campy SG seatpost I asked about earlier). We have the brochure and ad (downloaded from a web site) so there is at least something to work from. Of course, if there is an actual source for such decals, that would be even better. |

Good topic Clyde, and in some of my searches, I myself have seen very
little in this area of repro Decal/stickers. Heck, it's hard enough just getting new ones! I'm surprised that someone hasn't taken up the task of making repro Decals, at least for a few of the more popular famous bikes. Bikes such as Schwinn (Paramount) The ole Schwinn Stingrays,, Colnago's, Masi's, Guerciotti's Gitane's, Motbecane's, etc. etc. In my opinion, paint jobs are the easy part of a restoration. I'm sure there could be a market for these too. I know that like in the drum Community, there are folks who make repro Badges, Bass Drum Head Logos, Vintage looking wraps etc. Mark news@clydesoles.com (Clyde) wrote in message news:<1gbz4sj.ky7setm1fxwiN%news@clydesoles.com>... > Anyone have any tips on how to recreate old decals. Because as soon as it gets to the point where it's worth your while, somebody will sue you for copyright/trademark infringement. For one-off's look in the yellow pages for a sign shop that does die-cut vinyl. (ask the local stock-car racers where to go) I've found a local shop that is willing to make whatever I need. They've done some old GT decals based on scans they've done from catalog pages. They look original. Interestingly, one of the other things they've done for me is a Rogers logo for a bass drum head - funny you should mention drums. |

Talk to CyclArt (http://www.cyclart.com/). They have a wide variety of old decals and can recreate what they don't have. Jeff |

I believe that there was thread during the last year where someone found clear decals that could be printed with an inkjet printer. I believe that it was some material used in model railroading. I also believe that you could spray clear coat over the decals to preserve them. |

(International Paper) makes clear decals that can be used in any ink jet printer. If you need white, then try: http://www.beldecal.com , also made for ink jet. Be sure to follow the directions, and I like to apply a good clear coat after you have applied the decal. I used Helmsman exterior clear polyurethane. It's held up on my Reaper ATB for over a year now. It also has a built in UV block to keep your decals from fading. - - "May you have the wind at your back. And a really low gear for the hills!" I did some custom decals for a bicycle frame I built recently. I've documented much of the process, at http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/Suz.../transfers.html It's a lot of work, but the results are very gratifying. At the moment I'm doing a replacement set of decals for a 1947 Malvern Star five star model. The seat tube decal is a true work of art, with seven colours, including white and metallic gold.
