m2racer ORB pedals

....look interesting (m2racer.com), but I can't find any comments from
anyone that has used them, and I've never seen a pair for real. I am
particularly interested in hearing:
- do they release predictably?
- how are they to get into "no look"?
- how long to plastic bearings last?!

I find them mildly interesting, but some groups.google.com searching
revealed quality control issues, and retention issues IIRC. I saw
them in a Supergo catalog last year.

That company does have a pretty cool "lightest road bike in the
world" project, with a much more realistic bike than others I've
seen -- no carbon fiber chainrings, for example.

yeah, I'm interested in them partly because of the weight, but also
because they might be super easy to get into on my tandem. taking off
uphill from a light, it can be hard to hit a one-sided pedal, and a
lightweight twosided pedal like Ti speedplay gets REAL expensive.

What got me "concerned" was the mention of "Polymer Bearings", and I
can't imagine plastic bearings lasting very long....

but... I haven't seen any in Ebay, so I'm wondering what people are
doing with them, or if they aren't even trying them.

You ought to consider Egg Beaters. You can get them in a few
different materials for weight/price consideration. They're easy to
get into. They offer "road" cleats with rubber pontoons to make
walking less painful if you use "road" shoes.

Or, you could consider regular "mountain" pedals. They can be had
very lightly, and often cheaper too.

I think nobody's buying the m2racer pedals.

yeah, I've been considering the Eggbeaters and the Speedplay for
two-sided entry. But, for the sub-200gr models, they want $200+...
same for the m2racers at $228 list. Seems a little excessive. I'm not
a big weight weenie, but like to get a good value. tons of road pedals
are available sub-$100 that weigh 200gr.

maybe they'll decide to try a discount price to build a following. At
the current price, for a total unknown with questionable durability,
it looks like a bad risk. For $100 I might try them, but not for $200.

Egg Beater S sell for $120 and are 268 grams. Egg Beater Ti are $210
for 238 grams. That's barely more than an ounce heavier than you're
looking for, plus extra-easy entry (and they look ultra-cool .
Besides, didn't you say you're talking about a tandem? I can
understand weight-weenying (I do it sometimes too), but an ounce on
a tandem brings to mind the phrase "duck fart in the wind". Make
your partner get a haircut.
