I am going on vacation next week w/ my family in Kiawah Island, S.C. They'll
play tennis and I'll rack up some miles. But I want them to be high quality, not base or just endurance, which is what I end up w/ when riding alone. Too late in season for that and I think my aerobic is ok. I also missed Branch Brook or Mullica in NJ this weekend, b/c I had to to make Church w/ my family. Anyone know of any clubs/teams in that area. I'm hoping for traditional Tues/Thurs hammers or even a mid-week club race, if I'm lucky. Thanks. |

Kiawah is a wonderful place. No hills, but you can get lots of nice work riding into those 40 mph beachfront headwinds ... particularly if you're on one of the fat-tire beach cruisers you can rent down there. Be advised ... there are paved bike paths all over the island (not designed with serious road riding in mind). If you try to ride on the roads on the island, they'll chase you off. (In SC, the law is that, if there's a bike path/lane present, you must use it -- whether it's really rideable or not.) You may have to leave Kiawah to get some real road training in. Bob C. |

Thanks Bob. Very helpful, especially the tip about SC law. I found a VW
team associated w/ Coastal. Looks promising. Sadly, one of their Charleston-based riders was killed in a training accident there a couple of weeks ago ... run over by a pickup truck. Be careful out there. Bob C. |
