WOMEN'S CYCLING CLINIC RETURNS TO T-TOWN MAY 1 & 2, 2004 Trexlertown, PA. The T-Town Women's Cycling Clinic is back for a second year. The weekend clinic is a comprehensive, fun experience that provides beginning women riders with cycling information, techniques and skills in a safe, supportive environment. It draws participants from all over the Northeastern US and is designed for beginning women cyclists who may have raced or are just thinking about it. The T-Town Clinic is unique in that the riders will get the opportunity to learn both road and track skills in and around the Lehigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown, PA. Track bike rentals are included in the cost of the clinic. Two days of combined classroom and on-the-bike sessions where riders learn the nuts and bolts of riding technique: how to feel more comfortable on their bikes; how to ride close to others-in a pack, with a buddy or in a paceline; how to take a corner better; how to pedal efficiently and more. Also covered are bike fit, season and training plans, and beginning racing strategy. Saturday's program focuses on general racing skills and practices those skills on the road. Sunday afternoon will be track time where riders will be able to try out the velodrome on a track-supplied bike. This is a great opportunity to get step-by-step instruction on how to ride a fixed gear bike, how to enter and exit the track properly and, of course, how to get up and feel comfortable on the 27 degree banking. The track session will be video taped with analysis afterward. Saturday evening's activities include a catered dinner on the Lehigh Valley Velodrome's Velodeck. Participants will be able to relax and mingle with everyone involved: participants, staff, volunteers and sponsors - a wonderful, relaxing way to wind down, eat great food and hang out with the other women participants. Our instructors have been conducting clinics of this kind since 1999. Participants will learn from women who've "been there" and who are experienced and knowledgeable teachers: --Karen Bliss (Emmaus, PA) 7-time U.S. Road and Track National Champion, America's "Winningest" female cyclist with over 300 career wins --Kendra Wenzel (McKenzie Bridge, OR) Professional cycling coach, author and owner of Wenzel Coaching, Pan Am Gold Medalist --Sue McDonough (York, ME) Over 150 career wins, Multi-tasking Queen: at one time was an elite racer, full-time job holder and mother! --Lori Hoefer, (Saratoga Springs, NY) Master Bike Fitter of Serotta Bicycles who will be providing information on the advantages of the right bike fit. She will also be available for individual bike fit sessions for those women who would like to sign up for this service for an additional fee. --Selene Yeager, (Emmaus, PA) fitness author, well-known as the advice-giving "Fitness Chick" from Bicycling Magazine, will give a seminar on core body strength exercises and stretching technique. Great information. Terrific, supportive environment. You guys did an excellent job." -Lorie Reinert, participant and President of the Lehigh Wheelmen Association "I was really afraid of the velodrome. The banking was intimidating. But I am proud to say that not only did I get up onto the track, I even tried my hand at racing!" -Jo Johnson, first-time track rider "The opportunity to practice technical riding skills and receive expert instruction and feedback gave me the confidence to pursue racing at the age of 37. During the racing season, I found myself continually referring back to the sound advice and encouragement offered, and it proved to be the foundation of a successful season." -Wendy Simpson, Bronze medalist, women's 35-39 2km pursuit and 500m time trial, 2003 Masters' World Track Cycling Championships FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Nancy Seay, Assistant Director Lehigh Valley Velodrome @ 610-395-7128 www.lvvelo.org nancy@lvvelo.org |
