Hey
If the IRS took over, would they register 1st Div, or to save taxes, maybe 3rd Div? Thanks, Ronde |

If there was a Canadian version they would enter Div.3 and charge the tax
payers for Div.1! James "ronde chumpion" <rondechumpion@aol.com> wrote in message news:62f26b38.0404080822.6fef6504@posting.google.com... > Hey > > If the IRS took over, would they register 1st Div, or to save taxes, maybe 3rd Div? > > Thanks, > Ronde |

Silly me, I thought it was going to be Berry Floor. Shows what I know... Personally, I'm hoping that Specialized gets into Div. I sponsorship (and I don't mean Domina Vacanze). I'd be their biggest fan, and local too. ![]() -Sonarrat. |

Joke, meet Sonarrat. Sonarrat ... joke.
My point was that I don't think tax dollars should be spent on a racing team to advertise that which does not need to be advertised. -Bob "Sonarrat" wrote in message: > in article , Bob at wrote on > 4/8/04 7:45 AM: > > > > Because it would take too much tax money to do it. Do you really think that people do not have any alternatives to the USPS? How do you account for this odd stament? Hell, I can even make an argument for the IRS having a marketing budget, but it should be spent on specific messages rather than institutional advertising. Then again, if the IRS wants to change the way people feel about them (maybe that is a worthy goal and maybe it isn't but *if*) then a cycling team led my the best American riders would go along way in changing the way people feel about the institution and the people that are part of it. > "Sonarrat" wrote in message: > > in article , Bob at wrote on > > 4/8/04 7:45 AM: > > > > > > Because it would take too much tax money to do it. She says it was tough to go up against the USPS for international shipping. They get away with predatory pricing and other funkey stuff because they are part government agency part private company. They profit from ads just like DHL does, because they are trying to win biz contracts just like DHL. |

Say Bob, apparently you think that tax dollars should be wasted paying for mail delivery though. Due to the popularization of USPS from the exposure of Lance. USPS overseas services greatly increased and paid back more than they cost. I'm glad you're not running a company that I own stock in. There are enough damned idiots in government service. |

Well, apparently you approve of the 3 BILLION dollar loss the USPS has had since 2000. You own stock in USPS whether you like it or not, moron. -Bob |

Do you attribute that loss the the team sponsorship? It would have apparently been even worse if not for the marketing payoff from the sponsorship. There are a lot of factors coming from direct comptitors as well as alternative techologies. Face it, you only *assume* it is a bad deal for USPS. They got huge returns since they won the Tour in the past 5 out of 8 seasons of sponsorship. >You own stock in USPS whether you like it or not, moron. > > -Bob > > |

Here's a link to the USPS > annual report: > http://www.usps.com/history/anrpt03/ Try this link: http://www.postalwatch.org/news2004...evoir_lance.htm .... "The powers to be at the USPS not only cooked the books, but they also deep fried, grilled and everything else known to man, in their accounting and reporting of their sponsorships of Lance Armstrong's Tour de France cycling team since 1996," the newspapers said in a commentary last year. .... "Their diligence in pursuing Freedom of Information requests and trying to cut through the maze of the post office's sketchy cost accounting has been a bright light for public scrutiny of wasteful spending," Merritt said. Merritt, a fighter against waste in government, had strong words on hearing the news of the USPS pulling the plug on its sponsorship program. "Talk about a government boondoggle, the pro-cycling sponsorship exemplifies just how delusional postal leadership can be," Merritt said. "They raised domestic monopoly rates three times while forcing captive ratepayers to pay more than $50 million to sponsor a European sporting event and then, adding insult to injury, they achieved a negative result." .... |
