Cofidis skips Paris-Roubaix

France's top cycling team, Cofidis, has been forced to pull out of Sunday's
Paris-Roubaix classic by its title sponsor.

The team is battling a series of doping allegations, and press reports in
Friday's newspapers only served to put the team deeper in the mire.

A statement from the team's sponsor, credit company Cofidis, said:

"Cofidis has decided to take some time out to reflect on the current

Manchester. Once again one of the few times cycling gets on terrestrial
TV in the UK they have to lead of with a discussion about drugs.

I believe he could have ridden (as he was riding for GB, not Cofidis)
but chose to withdraw in the circumstances.

Same here, only the newspaper. They only mention cycling during the tour de
france, the rest of the year it's baseball, football,hockey. Then they ran a
story on pantani's death, and today, after not mentioning any of the spring
races, ran a small wire story on cofidis. Well, who cares. We all know
cyclists aren't REAL athletes.

Is i understood from Dutch Eurosport comment the whole Cofidis team was ordered to the Cofidis headquarters by the team to get
everybodies stories about the whole thing.

The Tv Coverage said that he was pulled by Cofidis. I think the BCF
wouldnt have been too happy as the crowds at the World Cup have been
dissapointing and Millar would have bought quite a few people in.

I bet there are some civil lawsuits before this pantomine reaches the second act.

Now I must admit to not knowing the exact legal structure or administrative heirarchy used by Cofidis to run/operate/control the team but ordering riders not to ride would seem to me to be potentially actionable on numerous grounds by the riders and possibly by other third parties who may have suffered damages, for example the organizers of the Manchester World Cup event and even ticket holders who had prepurchased tickets in anticipation of seeing the Hong Kong Haggis Snapper pull the Brits to victory in the pursuit, which they did anyway without much mental anguish on the part of the rest of the squad because the HKHS wasn't even on the squad a week ago.

There maybe some mitigation if Cofidis (or whomever the riders are directly bound to by contract) still pays the salaries of riders ordered not to ride but not neither convicted of any offense by a court of competent jurisdiction nor suspended by any ruling body for contravention of any rules.

Where the frig is Stikeman Elliot's limelight seeking, rabble rousing, loud mouthed, poor loser, money grabbing, IOC Presidential reject, WADA-Sonderkommando Fuhrer and SuperWanker Prick (sorry Dick) Pound when we need him. I bet he could make the lads a fortune and gain himself some publicity too if he handles a class action suit on this one.

Davey sure ain't no Lawyer, but he is in fact an accountant who has worked over the years on several suits for damages and if he had a client affected by Cofidis' actions, he'd sure as heck be checking the phone book for Stikeman Elliot's telephone number!!
