Default Walmart ad in Google Groups rec.bicycles.racing

I'm using Google to browse rec.bicycles.racing, and they've begun
putting adds up. I clicked on the one for Walmart just so they'd have
to pay Google for the click....

My question to you guys is can I get a bike I can race from them at a
good price, like $300???

Not likely, but it depends on what you mean by "race" and how seriosuly you
want to take bike racing.

Simple ... no ... Walmart bikes are junk and assembled by people who have no
clue how a derailluer works. You cannot get it serviced their either ...
check out http://www.bikesrnottoys.com/ for more info on why not.

For road racing ... casual look at spending $500 to $1000 for a decent bike.
Serious bikes (race/training) start about $1500 to $2000. For mountain bike
racing you can get a decent hard tail bike from you local bike shop for $300
to $400. It will work ... have service and more.

This one is under $200.

The "Big Boa" rear should help keep traction for field sprints.

Didn't see any ads when I just popped in, but I do see Sponsored Links
to the left.

$300 bikes are usually very heavy and components wear out fast if used
regularly.

I picked up a GT Edge (i.e.
http://www.maddogmedia.com/crossnet/gt.html ) for winter riding and
possible 'cross, off ebay back in Dec. for $550. Full Campy Record
9Spd with Atlanta wheels. Hardly used, too. Deals be out there,
check at your LBS, some have used bikes or boards here bikes for sale
are posted.

$ 5.00 more if they take off the kickstand. Needs a Bicycle playing
card in the rear spokes and its a sale.

What is the difference between a sponsored link and an add?

Effectively, a sponsored link is just a little rectangle of text with a
hyperlink in it, rather than some awful flash, pop-up or an animated
gif. I like CN, but all those animated gifs get on my nerves while
trying to read. I'd consider a subscription if they'd drop the darn things.

You sure can race it! No guarantees whether you'll finish. There's a
great review in BMX where they tested the best store bought Murray
Magna with the lowest end bike shop D-back BMX bike. The D-back was
$80 more. Let's just say there wasn't much usable bike left on the
Magna.

You get what you pay for.

I don't think that Google charges by the click. Just by placement.

Paying by click is "so 8 years ago".

Google charge by the click. Their marketing director was so quoted in
an interview with the New York Times earlier this week. Everytime you
click on the Wallmart ADD (sponsored link = add) it costs Walmart $.25
cents to advertise to someone who knows better than to buy one of
their crap bikes.

oh, yes; you miht have to set your browser not to accept cookies, or
all the clicks may only count once.
